James Ritchie
Principal Consultant
James brings diverse senior executive leadership experience from the public, private and not-for-profit sectors.
James has held executive responsibilities in disaster and emergency management throughout his career having executive accountability for risk mitigation, fire and flood response, counter terrorism planning and emergency evacuation.
James has a strong ability to lead, plan and deliver diverse projects and programs which is attributed to his strong strategic thinking. He holds a Masters of Business Administration, a Commerce Degree in Business Management, an International Diploma in Humanitarian Assistance (IDHA50) from Fordham University, New York, USA and has completed training in Disaster Risk Management at the Seminar für Ländliche Entwicklung (SLE) Humboldt-Universität Berlin.

Julian Meagher
Specialist Consultant – Emergency Management
Julian is a senior emergency management leader spending 16 years in government prior to establishing a consulting service.
Throughout his career Julian has been involved in supporting and providing emergency management expertise and health content advice in responding to a range of emergencies in Victoria, around Australia and overseas – including floods, windstorms, fires and many HAZMAT incidents.
In 2009 Julian was involved in the Black Saturday response and its aftermath, the H1N1 Pandemic response and led the Victorian Medical Assistance Team component of Australia’s response to the Pacific Tsunami in Samoa.
Julian has held a number of leadership roles across the sector.

Kate Riddell
Specialist Consultant – Communities
Kate has a 20 year history of facilitation and training in a variety of community and educational organisations, with extensive experience in the volunteer, women’s health, Local Government and emergency services sectors.
Kate moved to the Kinglake Ranges in 2004. She spent 10 years volunteering in the emergency services.
In 2009, following Black Saturday, Kate co-founded Firefoxes Australia, a grassroots, not-for-profit organisation focused on community development and disaster recovery. During this time, Kate was awarded the Pride of Australia medal, Minister for Health Volunteer Award, Ambulance Victoria Leadership Excellence Award and the National Emergency Medal.

Margaret Moreton
Specialist Consultant – Communities
Margaret works with communities to assist them to identify, understand and strengthen their assets, to prepare for all hazards, and to strengthen their resilience to recover from emergencies including fires, flood and cyclones, and other crises and challenges.
She advises and works with all levels of government, with non-government organizations and on the ground in communities. She translates and liaises between these sectors and advocates for the resilience of communities and the importance of community voice.
Margaret has a PhD in community resilience, is a member of the IAP2, a graduate of the AICD and is active in a number of advisory roles including the ACT (Ministerial) Bushfire Council (2017-2020), the Australian Vulnerability Partnership – National Resilience Taskforce, and the Disaster Resilience Education Strategy Group.

Melanie Peverill
Community Liaison & Resilience Co-ordinator
Melanie is an Australian Red Cross volunteer currently studying a Master of International Development Practice at Monash University – led by a special interest in management of disasters and humanitarian crises.
Melanie is project managing C2C’s 50 Communities Project to match community needs (before, during and after disasters) with capabilities from local and national businesses.
Implementing the project based on a shared responsibility philosophy supports Melanie’s passion for authentic community resilience building and sustainability approaches.

Vanessa Marrama
Specialist Consultant – Project Management
Vanessa brings with her more than 10 years administration and management experience, predominately in the not for profit sector.
She completed a Master of Business Administration in 2011 in addition to a Social Sciences degree and a Graduate Certificate in Risk Management.
Vanessa is passionate about applying her range of skills in the general administration, project management and social media space to ensure that communities and businesses alike become more resilient to natural and unnatural disasters, both in Australia and abroad.
